IT Technician - York

Optimum Recruitment Group are working with this well-established successful client on the outskirts of York to appoint an organised, professional, committed and enthusiastic IT Technician to support the ongoing growth of the company.

Reporting to the IT Manager, the role is to manage the day-to-day work of the IT Helpdesk, taking responsibility for the daily administration and operation of the department.  Our client is looking for an individual who has the appetite and ability to get stuck into whatever needs dealing with and can deal with conflicting priorities.

You will be responsible for:

  • Serving as the first point of contact for IT support within the organisation.
  • Completing all administrative tasks associated with the provision of technical support, including responding to/raising tickets and maintaining operational data.
  • Installing, configuring and maintaining software and hardware components of computer, network and telecommunication systems.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting software and hardware issues.
  • Repairing and replacing damaged computer and network components.
  • Ensuring the security of client and server computers by installing and upgrading antivirus and firewall software.
  • Supporting colleagues whenever they encounter challenges with IT issues.
  • Maintaining and updating technical documentation regularly.
  • Testing new hardware and software before full-scale installation.

Do you have the following skills, knowledge and experiences?

  • A proven work experience in a varied IT support or an IT technician role preferably from within an SME environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows Server, Windows 10/11and Office 365.
  • Knowledge of any of the following: Spiceworks, ERP systems, Veeam, VLAN, VOIP, PowerShell, Sophos, NETGEAR, Ubiquiti, Routing would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of security software and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and trouble shooting skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide technical support to all users within the organisation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • A positive attitude with an appetite to learn.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to work in a front-line customer facing environment.
  • Ability to cope with competing demands and to prioritise tasks as part of the IT team.
  • A full driving license is essential as the role will involve some travel to local sites.

In return our client is offering the following:

  • Salary £25,000 - £35,000 depending on skills and experiences.
  • Working hours are Monday – Friday (9am – 5pm) with some flexibility on start and finish times.
